Our friends from Val D’Oison arrived on the Saturday morning for our annual games challenge. This year we challenged the French to play school playground games !! We had a school theme and invited all those taking part to come suitably dressed. We had a great array of costumes ranging from headmistress through to school swots and St Trinian’s girls.
The afternoon started with the register being called and the threat of detention for those latecomers who did not bring a note from their mothers !! The object of the game was to challenge someone from the opposing association to participate in marbles, noughts and crosses, netball, jacks, hula hoops, skipping and hopscotch. At the end of the allotted time, the headmistress allowed everyone to go to the pub where there were even more games !!
At 7.00 pm , everyone went back to the Memorial Hall which had by now been transformed into the school canteen, for a school dinner of shepherd’s pie followed by fruit pie and custard or jelly and ice cream. After dinner the headmistress announced the results of the challenge and there was a prize giving.
The French narrowly beat the English and so they took the cup back with them this year. The official event closed with a school disco.
Once again the weekend was a great success.
