Clanfield is a village and civil parish in the county of Hampshire, situated about 12 miles north of  Portsmouth, just off the A3, one of the main road links between London and the South coast.  The name Clanfield means “Field of Clean Weeds” and the village has historically been a small farming community centered around the church of St James.

Clanfield is a  village with two centres a mile apart - Old Clanfield (approx 250 years) with the pub, St James church, thatched well, recently restored pond and shops, and  the newer village with housing estates and more shops.   Clanfield is slightly larger than its older yet still much smaller neighbouring village of Horndean.

Clanfield is a desirable place to live being situated on the edge of the beautiful Meon Valley on the South Downs.  The village has two schools catering for ages 5 - 8 and 8 - 12 each with approx 300 pupils.

Clanfield is a very active community with over thirty clubs ranging from Scouts to Senior citizens.  It is also a popular area for walkers, with Queen Elizabeth Country Park being next to the village.

The old village of Clanfield has a pottery, located next to the old forge and within walking distance there is an Observatory, well know locally for it numerous telescopes and opportunities to view the planets and stars close - up.  Windmill Hill provides a local landmark, the old disused windmill having been converted to a dwelling some years ago.

Other local attractions within a short distance from the village are Butser Hill, an open area popular for walking, picnics, grass-skiing, and hang-gliding, Old Winchester HiIll, a National Nature Reserve, Queen Elizabeth Country Park, again well known for its wooded walks and Iron Age Farm, Catherington Down, Hambledon Village  where the game of cricket was first developed.

Clanfield village is ideally situated being just five miles away from the market town of Peterfield, but more importantly, just half an hour in each direction from the major cities of Winchester to the West, Chichester to the East, Guildford to the North and Southampton  and Portsmouth (with its cross channel ferries) to the South.
