20th April 1997 - 11th Duathlon at Le Bec Thomas

Clanfield Joggers were very successful in the 11th annual Le Bec Thomas Duathlon.  The race was over a very windy and testing course, consisting of 7.4km running, followed by 30km cycing with 5.9km running to finish.
The team won the inter-village competition for the Jumelage Trophy, whilst Carwen Hughes won the Senior Veteran Men’s trophy.  Other members of the team excelled with several highly placed individual finishes and Clanfield returned to UK following a satisfying and most enjoyable weekend.
6th June 1998 - Club Feminin at La Sussaye

On Saturday  6th June, Club Feminin of La Saussaye held a special exhibition of the work of craftspeople from the Clanfield area.  The exhibition was open for public viewing following an official opening attended by local dignitaries and a steady stream of people viewed and purchased the English crafts: some were bought as gifts, as the next day was “Mother’s Day” in France !!
April 2000 - Le Bec Thomas Duathlon

The main Twinning visit to Val d’Oison coincided in 2000 with the Duathalon - a superbly organised series of events.  These were certainly up to regional or inter county standards.  The competitors alone trebled the population of Le Bec Thomas and Carwyn Hughes was proud to have represented Clanfield. He competed well and enjoyed the occasion coming away with T-shirts, trophy, cycling top and photograph.  He says that his name changes when in France to Carwyn “OOG” and he has to listen very carefully when results are broadcast !!
18th November 2000 - Casino Night

Once again Denmead and Clanfield’s Twinning Associations came up rumps by holding a joint Casino Night which took place in the Memorial Hall and was well attended by members and friends from both groups.  There is a lot of work involved in staging an event like this and the committee had worked very hard to make it a success.  Their efforts were not in vain as everyone had a very good time trying their luck on the horses, black jack, roulette and thte dice game, shoot.  The eventual winner was a member from Denmead, although the raffle prizes were amongst both associations, a bottle of champagne going Denmead’s way and one of our own members walking away with a bottle of port and a tin of Quality Street !!  The general comments were that it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, that we should hold another joint event with Denmead and that as usual the beer was definitely worth going for !!
