A DAY IN ST MALO
If you subscribe to the News every day, you might want to look out for one of their regular promotions SAIL TO FRANCE FOR A TENNER. This promotion features regularly over the winter months and offers the opportunity to enjoy a break with Brittany Ferries for as little as £10 per person and £10 per car (when 4 persons travel). Roy and I take advantage of this offer once or twice a year and usually travel to St Malo on a Friday night, returning in the same cabin on a Saturday night. We usually have a feast on board in the evening before bedding down in our cabin. The next day we enjoy breakfast in St Malo, a walk round the ramparts, a visit to a Saturday market, a seafood lunch followed by a walk or a visit to a nearby town in the afternoon, finishing with a supermarket shop before boarding the ferry in the evening.
Over the past few years we have visited the following places:
- Dinard which has a Satuday morning market
- Dol de Bretagne which also has a Saturday morning market. The view of Mont St Michel from nearby Mont Dol is worth a detour.
- Mont St Michel
- Fougères
- Rennes which has a huge Saturday market
- The medieval town of Dinan
- Cancale, renowned for its oysters
- Erquy, famous for Coquilles St Jacques
- The Sentier des Douaniers (coastal walk)
- The Suisse Normande (when we returned via Caen on one occasion)
If anyone is interested, just let me know and I will look out for the offer on your behalf.
